South Jersey Safety provides safety training directly to its client firms and to businesses through area community colleges. Deane Smith, P.E., founder and principal of South Jersey Safety, teaches:

  • OSHA 10-hour and 30-hour courses on OSHA requirements for construction and general industry.

  • Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) classes.

  • Safety management classes, covering accident investigation, job safety analysis, loss analysis, safety leadership and communication, claims management, and OSHA recordkeeping.

  • Safety engineering classes, covering safe equipment designs, ergonomics, and life safety.

  • Classes on specific topics include: fall protection, ladders, machinery and machine guarding, material handling, trenching and excavations, electrical safety, confined spaces, lockout tagout, cranes and hoists, hazardous materials, noise and hearing conservation, scaffolds, and blood-borne pathogens.

Classes address the specific needs of the audience. Participants come from the common construction trades and industrial occupations and work at all levels of their organizations, ranging from executive management and staff positions to field personnel.

Our classes emphasize the reason for and application of safety standards and principles, and include participatory workshops so students can apply the concepts to practical field problems.

In addition to its business clients, South Jersey Safety trains students leaving high school and about to enter the workplace, as young workers are among the most vulnerable to occupational injury.
